Let's Talk Ballard: The Changing Face of Ballard: Crime and Shopping Local

As I was getting prompt to post today, two news items caught my eye and before I get into what I'd intended to talk about, I'd like to greet them: the Ballard News Tribune came out with an article about the spread of crime in Ballard, and whether crime has truly increased or whether it's fair our perception. When a quiet neighborhood becomes more popular and bars and restaurants start stuffing more store fronts, the crowds will change and the dynamics of the streets change-over, as they point out. Does that mean it's less safe? Well, check out this more recent news bit from the Seattle PI : last night in Ballard, a man attacked a sweetie with a hammer, leaving her mortally wounded (she died after she got to Harborview) and then leaped to his destruction. They apparently lived together. Now, it was my understanding that domestic violence is more joint than random violence but since I couldn't find stats at the SPD website to pay for that, I can't say for sure.
